Gottifredi Maffioli introduces PBO rigging at the Mini Transat
The 15th edition of the famous Mini Transat starts today from Fort Boyard, near La Rochelle (France). This challanging single-handed compatition riserved to small but techical boat, only 6,5-meter-long, has gained great reputation throughout the years, having been the starting point for many of the world most famous ocean sailors.
Seventy two boat in two categories (40 prototypes and 32 series boats) will race the demanding 4.250-mile-long course which will bring them to Salvador de Bahìa, in Brasil, after a stop in Puerto Calero (Lanzarote, Canarie). Two participants that surely can named among the favourites for the victory of this difficult regatta are spanyard Alex Pella on his fast OpenSea/TeamWork, who already classified third in the previous edition and showed in recent years to be one of the absolute protagonists of the circuit, and italian Andrea Caracci, who he is at his first real ocean race experience but he impressed the observers and the opponents for the very good results he obtained so far ottenuti nel corso della sua campagna suduring his debut campaign onboard Speedy Bonsai. Both the boats are totally equipped with Gottifredi Maffioli lines, not only for the running rigging, but for the standing rigging too, which has been produced by Gottifredi Maffioli using its high modulus VZ lines made of Zylon (PBO). Thanks to its excellent mechanical properties, this unique products allows to make very stiff but amazingly light rigs. Being very easy to splice, the VZ finally makes composite rigging an option also for smaller boats and smaller budgets.
