Groupama 3 Win the Route du Rhum 2010
Franck Cammas, the skipper of maxi trimaran Groupama 3, took victory
in his first solo transatlantic race: the Route du Rhum 2010.
The elapsed time for the course, after starting Saint Malo Sunday 31st October at 1302hr (CET/Paris) was 9 days 3 hours 14 mins 47 seconds and the average speed over the course on the water was. 20.39 knots for an actual course sailed of 4471 miles. In March this year Cammas already set the fully crewed round the world Jules Verne Trophy record with the boat, sailing with a crew of ten to smash the record by 2 days 08 hours 35 minutes. All the running rigging of the maxi trimaran Groupama 3, during its victorious non-stop round-the-world record attempt and Route du Rhum, was indeed developed and produced in Novara, Italy, by Gottifredi Maffioli, the world leader in high performance ropes. For the most stressed and abused lines, the French team chose the new super-strong DSK 90 RACE ZPT lines, which were also the choice of America'Cup winning BMW Oracle racing, but selected also the DSK 78 RACE DYCO lines for all those applications where it was important to combine lightweight, abrasion resistance and great efficiency in jammers. On boats of such dimensions and with such extraordinary performance, all the equipment is subjected to extreme stress, particularly the sheets. For this reason, the "Gottifredi Maffioli RIGGING LAB" della specifically developed a series of CUSTOM TAPERED LINES, which, thanks to the exclusive diameter variation technology and a careful optimisation of the materials, allowed to minimise the weight of all the sheets and to maximise the performance of every single meter of rope.
