The Italian company, recognised by the quality of their products, announces the use of DSM’s bio-based Dyneema in the production of sailing and mooring lines, as well as additional initiatives in daily manufacturing operations to reduce their carbon footprint.

Dyneema, the world’s strongest fibre, has evolved to become bio-based whilst maintaining the same characteristics and performance of the original fiber.
The first raw material used to manufacture Dyneema fibers is Ethylene, which is traditionally obtained from fossil fuels. The mass balance approach is key to the transition from conventional to renewable ethylene sources. Mass balancing starts with the waste from pulp and timber industries (the new main raw material), which combined with fossil feedstock is processed and transformed into both conventional and bio-based Dyneema, which quantities can be allocated to customer orders through a certified traceability process.
A DMS internal Life Cycle Assessment analysis shows that 1 tonne of bio-based Dyneema reduces 5 tonnes of CO2 when compared to Conventional Dyneema and up to 29 tonnes of CO2 compared to Generic HMPE*.
Bio-based Dyneema is certified according to the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC).
By switching from conventional raw materials to sustainable certified sources, Dyneema is moving towards their sustainability goals and those of their partners and customers.

For years the company has been investing in renewable energy sources that today represent nearly 100% of the company’s production plant energy needs, both through the direct use of the energy produced by the 150kW photovoltaic plant installed in their premises and by obtaining the residual part of their energetic demand from renewable energy providers.
Gottifredi Maffioli increasingly implements circular economy actions that further contribute to a lower carbon footprint of manufacturing operations, namely the use of 100% recycled material pallets for stocking and transporting goods, as well as waste reduction by reusing all packaging.
